In school, we were only taught about Martin Luther King and Harriet Tubman. Not about Malcolm X, Sojourner Truth, Marcus Garvey or even Nat Turner. No talk about Black Native Americans. So much history is taught to us as children, but as blacks, no one has ever taught us where we come from and the truths of our past. So excuse the fuck out of me for wanting to educate myself and gain some understanding about who I am and how we came to be. No one else did or will teach me.
